What Others are Saying
For more than 34 years, International Zoological Expeditions, Inc. (IZE) has introduced students, educators, and adventurers to the wonders of Belize and now Venezuela. Here's what our guests have to say:

"Kudos to IZE"
We are back home....reluctantly!! I cannot say enough in praise for the staff at South Water! We were treated so well and had such a wonderful time that it makes us sad we waited so long to "rediscover" IZE. We found just enough change to accomodate our "aging bodies" but not enought to spoil the feeling of adventure!

I can only say we will not let twelve years go by until the next visit! We are trying to decide when to go back and if we stay for one month...or longer! Kudos to IZE for a job well done!!

"It's a paradise"
Our university study-abroad students and faculty stay at IZE South Water Caye each summer for a month during coral-reef courses. IZE has the facilities, location, and people to make each stay wonderful. There are comfortable facilities for sleeping and dining, a large classroom and comfortable setting for our meetings, recreational space, and well-maintained boats and diving equipment for field work.

South Water Caye is located on the barrier reef, so students can snorkel over coral reefs right from the beach. Numerous spectacular diving sites are within a mile of the island. It's a paradise.

But it is the people at IZE who keep us coming back. Many places offer bargain prices, good facilities, and comfortable rooms for field classes, but IZE has more. IZE has the people for success. IZE employees are willing to interact with students and faculty, happy to help when needed, but anxious to let each group explore at their own pace.

Most of all, we feel welcome at IZE. It's a place where we can work hard, play hard, and feel at home. The people of IZE are friends with whom we do business, not business people who want to be friends.

"Don't change a thing"
I would go back to South Water Caye in a second. Don't change a thing.

"Blue Creek was fantastic"
Phenominal trip! Our experience was the BEST! Plus, our experience at Blue Creek with the local Mayan population was fantastic. We especially were thrilled to be invited to the church service.

Cora Bodkin

"A trip of a lifetime"
The students had a great time. The cultural diversity, tropical forest, coral reefs were so far outside their experience in Montana, they are all calling it a trip of a lifetime. We will be back!

"The idyllic postcards don't do it justice"
I thought those idyllic picture postcards you see everywhere couldn't do you place on South Water caye justice.

Not only was the setting glorious, the accomodations charming and comfortable, the snorkeling dazzeling and the food good, but the people were interesting and nice, staff and guests alike. It was just the vacation I needed.

Charles Sellers

"We were well taken care of"
My husband and I took our two small children (4 and 6) and my 17 year old son, and we all loved the island. The staff were all terrific, particularly Mac and Jennifer. We hated to leave our new friends.

My oldest son was able to work with the researchers there from Cornell University to complete a marine research project during our stay that gave him needed credit toward his science requirements for school. It gave him a perspective on the field he could never gotten from a textbook or lecture. He was a different young man when we brought him home.

The family style meals were delicious and fresh. I particularly enjoyed not only not having to cook, but not even having to decide what to eat after initial questions about what we liked/disliked.

It was peaceful and restful. We spent many hours just swinging in the hammocks. The diving and snorkeling were lovely. We were very well taken care of throughout our trip. When we were talking with the children about a vacation this year, my now 7 year old wanted only to return to South Water Caye.

Mayan ruins
On an IZE Belize expedition you can explore the ancient ruins of Mayan cities and ceremonial centers, learning about the culture and ongoing excavation efforts from our experienced guides.

Within walking distance of San Ignacio in the Cayo District of Belize is Cahal Pech ("Place of the Ticks"). Discovered in the 1950s, this medium-sized Maya ceremonial center provides views of the Maya Mountains to the south and the fertile valleys of the Belize River to the northeast.
